The Virginia Department of Historic Resources is about to move into a
new headquarters that's part of the Virginia Historical Society
complex.  The DHR has both ethnographic and archaeological
collections; they may be able to help you avoid pitfalls -- if that's
possible!

The DHR phone number is (804) 786-3143 in Richmond.  Alexander Wise
is the agency head.  His office will no doubt refer you to the
appropriate people.
