Grass Baskets of Kodiak Island

Saturday, September 16th, is the last day to see the exhibit "Grass
Baskets of Kodiak Island" at the Alutiiq Museum & Archaeological
Repository.

    A 500 year old prehistoric basket is displayed with the work of
modern kodiak weavers such as Arlene Skinner, Mara Andrewvitch,
Christine Ignatin, Polly Tunohun, Martha Kahutak, Eleanor Naumoff, and
June Simeonoff Pardue.  Photographs by Sven Haakanson, Jr. enhance the
exhibit that includes all aspects of basket weaving-collecting and
curing raw materials, dying, weaving, and embellishment.

    The museum is located at 215 Mission Road, Suite 101 Kodiak,
Alaska.. Telephone 907-486-7004, Fax 907-486-7048.  Current hours of
operation are Tue-Fri., 9-5 & Sat., 1030-430.  Website:

    The Alutiiq Museum is a non-profit organization governed by
