Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Web Resources for Small/DIY Exhibits?

Hello museum world!

I am interning this summer in a small, remote town in Alaska, helping a group of
volunteers create a new local history museum. The volunteers have asked me to
help conceptualize how their new exhibit space, which they will lease next year,
should be set up. It's one room, and they have access to some merchandise
displays from a store which they intend to use for artifacts.

My background is mainly in collections and interpretation -- but I haven't had
much experience with designing exhibit spaces and physically arranging them. I
would like to learn more about this topic while also helping the volunteers in a
meaningful way (suggesting a floor plan, materials, interpretive flow, etc.).

Are there any low-cost/DIY exhibit development resources on the web that you
might suggest, like articles, low-cost design software, or video how-tos? I
would check them out myself and also pass the links along to the volunteers for
their future reference.

Thank you very much!

Kate Duffy
