Position Description:
The Gallery Director and Curator of Collections builds relationships with
artists and art patrons, participate in planning of exhibitions and
installation of shows, and participate in campus and larger community events
including art gallery openings and prospective student visits.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Gallery Director designs and plans shows, and reviewing prospective
works of art with the exhibitions committee made up of department. The
Gallery Director is expected to maintain a high level of personal and
professional integrity while maintaining and inspiring a positive,
collaborative, and constructive work environment that is innovative,
professional, disciplined, and efficient.
 
Reports to: 
Due to the nature of this position, in an academic setting, the Gallery
Director and Curator of Collections reports to the Art Department Chair and
the Provost of the College
 
The Gallery Director is responsible for:
·     Contacting and scheduling artists, preparing artist contracts,
preparing for shows and events at The Anne Wright Wilson Fine Arts Gallery.
This includes hanging and taking down exhibits, getting the gallery ready
for Openings and Art Walks, and packing, unpacking and shipping/returning
art work. 
·     Managing the exhibition schedules for the Anne Wright Wilson Fine Arts
Gallery and the Cochenour Gallery exhibition space in the Ensor Learning
Resource Center
·     Maintaining the exhibition and maintenance of the Dr. Don and Dorothy
Jacobs Collection and the permanent art collection of Georgetown College
·     Providing content for website and press releases
·     Staffing the gallery during open hours
·     Training student workers as gallery monitors on how to open and close
the gallery, greet visitors, handle art sales and ship art as needed
·     Arranging for refreshments and other visitor amenities during
exhibition openings and other functions as needed
·     Maintaining the membership list and the patron, member, and artist
database, and tracking inventory at the beginning and end of each show
·     Preparing mailings (both print and email) to campus community,
Georgetown and Scott County, and greater Lexington area, in addition to
larger art communities in Louisville and Cincinnati
·     Managing the gallery annual budget
·     Prepare monthly reports and present at the monthly department meetings
·      Building relationships with artists and existing and potential
customers and patrons
·      Keeping the facilities in good order, and doing light housekeeping in
the gallery, storage rooms in the art building and LRC, and minor wall
repair and paint touchup in gallery space
·      Managing student workers as gallery monitors, gallery assistants, and
any other necessary positions
·      Scheduling other repairs with on-campus and off-campus personnel as
needed
 
Desired Qualifications:
·     Must have a college degree in an art related field or have comparable
job experience in the arts
·     Must be able to work independently
·     Must be able to interact with the campus community and other visitors
in a friendly and professional manner
·     Responsibility, reliability, and integrity are essential
·     Strong organizational skills are required
·      Some computer skills required including email and internet, Macintosh
operating system, and MS Office programs and Adobe professional programs
·      An ability to talk knowledgably about artists and art in general
·     Ability to understand the value of works of art and good sense about
handling them
 
Appointment begins: July 1st, 2006
Compensation: 
Highly competitive plus benefits of full-time staff
