** Ambitious VR Experience Restores 7,000 Roman Buildings, Monuments to
Their Former Glory
The ambitious undertaking, painstakingly built by a team of 50 academics and
computer experts over a 22-year period, recreates 7,000 buildings and
monuments scattered across a 5.5 square mile stretch of the famed Italian
city.
** Should paintings be conserved in public?
In a profession that has often been accused of secrecy, of having
over-cleaned and damaged works when they are once again revealed to the
public after a long treatment in a studio, such openness is one way to
assuage criticism.

Though the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden is no stranger to
participatory exhibits, this is its first show that uses biometric

"Death in the Ice: The Mystery of the Franklin Expedition" includes more
than 200 objects from the collections of the National Maritime Museum in
London and the Canadian Museum of History alongside finds recovered by Parks
Canada from Franklin's ship HMS Erebus.

A facility that exhibits information about the 2011 crisis at Tokyo Electric
Power Co.'s Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant and provides updates about the
current condition of decommissioning work has opened.
** Estonia's Museum of Soviet Vehicles
The entire collection aims to preserve these metal pieces of the past, as
its main goal is to preserve the cars that travelled the roads of Estonia
and elsewhere in Eastern Europe.
** Return of African Artifacts Sets a Tricky Precedent for Europe's Museums
Mr. Fischer of the British Museum described the French report as "a radical
proposal" that made a "moral argument" against colonialism, whereby
"everything that took place under the conditions of colonialism is eligible
for restitution."
