I don't know exactly what kind of "Societies" you are referring to, but
here's one:

The Bytown Museum
(run by the Historical Society of Ottawa)
50 Canal Lane
Ottawa  ON  K1P 1P4
Canada
They don't have a web site as far as I know.

If you can find a copy of the Canadian Museums Association Directory of
Canadian Museums, each entry has a listing for governing authority, so you
may find more "society-run" museums.

Can  anyone give me sites etc on Society-run museums anywhere in the
world ? I would be most grateful, it is for an MA thesis.
