The Museum Shop Manager is responsible for the development and management of the Villa Finale Museum Shop, which will serve visitors to Villa Finale as well as visitors to the King William Historic District.  The Museum Shop serves as the initial point of contact with the public through the sale of tickets and memberships as well as shop merchandise.  As such, the Museum Shop is an integral part of the visitor experience and its alignment with, and support of, Villa Finale's mission is essential.

This  is a part time, salaried position eligible for benefits, working 20-25 hours/week.

Duties

Develop a museum shop that contributes to the overall success of Villa Finale in achieving its mission.
Create a welcoming and comfortable environment in the shop for visitors and staff; assure that it is always clean, organized, and well-stocked.
Select and develop unique, high-quality shop merchandise, attend trade shows as necessary, and ensure that adequate supplies of merchandise are available at all times.
Recruit, train, and manage museum shop staff and volunteers to ensure coverage of the front desk during open hours.
Ensure the positive reception of all visitors to Villa Finale; respond to customer inquiries and provide excellent customer service at all times.
Develop and implement sales strategies to maximize shop revenues. Maintain accurate records for sales and inventory; prepare daily reconciliation reports.
Develop annual budget for museum shop; forecast sales and expenses.
Develop and manage on-line museum shop operations, promotions, and special offers.
Develop collaborative efforts to integrate shop operations with site-wide programs and events.
Oversee ticket and membership sales.
Supervise the semi-annual physical inventory as required and set forth in National Trust procedures manual.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years retail experience, including supervisory and buying experience; experience specifically in a museum shop/ visitor services setting strongly preferred, as is experience developing and implementing a start up operation and handling online marketing and sales.
BA preferred, coursework in business, marketing or accounting preferred; experience managing budgets, daily accounting, and financial forecasting required.
Highly proficient in office computer software programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook and knowledgeable about various POS systems.
Must be self-motivated, reliable, enthusiastic, and entrepreneurial, with terrific customer service skills and ready to help engage the public on behalf of Villa Finale and the National Trust.
Interest in historic buildings and neighborhoods a plus.
