I think that I like David Haberstich's restaurant analogy best of all:  it is silly to think of collections to the exclusion of visitors and other users, likewise, it is silly to consider the visitors and other users to the exclusion of the collection (even collection-less museums use something as a jumping off point for their lessons!).

To quote Rodney King:  Can't we all just get along?  (and this is definitely a problem that works both ways)
