Position Open -- Preparator -- The Anderson Collection, Menlo Park, CA


PREPARATOR POSITION, PART-TIME

The Anderson Collection, an outstanding private collection of twentieth-century American paintings, sculpture, and works on paper, seeks a responsible and detail-oriented individual to install and handle artwork 2 - 3 days a week. More than two-thirds of the collection, which presently includes over 800 works, is on display at the Quadrus office complex in Menlo Park, California. 


Job responsibilities revolve around excellence in the care/custody/control of the works of art. 

Duties include: installation/deinstallation of revolving collection, proper maintenance of the art, overseeing conservation work, shipping preparation, minor framing, minor conservation, maintaining paperwork to track location of objects, coordinating work with Quadrus maintenance personnel, preparing for and participating in the deinstallation of 350 works to be included in a major exhibition of the Anderson Collection to open at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in October, 2000.

Qualifications: experience with the care and handling of fine art (both large scale and small scale objects) as well as familiarity with a broad range of installation techniques and hardware is necessary. Prior employment as a preparator is helpful.

The Anderson Collection employs a small, mostly part-time staff. Flexibility and an interest in all activities of running an art collection are necessary qualifications for the position. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are fundamental to the functioning of this small office. 



Wage will be $14 - $16 / hour based on experience, for working 16 - 24 hours a week.
