 Historic Preservation Specialist identifies, monitors and oversees all
           historic preservation activities at Stratford Hall
          Plantation for the Robert E. Lee Memorial Association

Stratford Hall Plantation
The Robert E. Lee Memorial Association (RELMA) seeks a Historic
Preservation Specialist who will
be the advocate for historic preservation at Stratford Hall Plantation.
A National Historic Landmark,
Stratford Hall Plantation is located on the Potomac River in Virginia s
Northern Neck.  Encompassing
1670 acres, Stratford has many cultural and natural resources of
paleontological, archaeological and
architectural significance.  The over 100 structures include historic
18th-century buildings, early 20th-century buildings designed by
renowned architect Fiske Kimball, and many later buildings.  For more

Job Summary
Job responsibilities include identifying, monitoring and overseeing all
preservation activities and
recording and managing projects in Stratford's Digital Historic
Preservation Management Program. The
Specialist will work with the Historic Architect, contractor,
consultants and specialists to ensure that
proper techniques and treatments are used in preservation projects. The
Specialist will assist the
Historic Architect in preparing and updating the Annual Conditions
Assessment Report, and be
responsible for identifying problems, monitoring conditions and works in
progress. The Specialist will
assist the Historic Architect in preparing cost estimates and work with
Stratford staff to account for
preservation expenditures, budgets, etc. The Specialist will report to
the Director of Cultural Resources.
The Specialist will be responsible for presentations to the Preservation
Committee, the Advisory Panel
for Historic Resources, RELMA Board members and staff.  Periodic
presentations at conferences and
seminars may be required.

Qualifications
Qualified candidates should have a degree in historic preservation,
architecture or architectural
conservation, Masters preferred, and at least two years work experience.
Candidates must be computer
literate, ideally with experience in CAD and database applications.
Candidates should have a strong
knowledge of current historic preservation practices and techniques, and
be able to diagnose and
monitor building conditions and review treatments.  The candidates
should have a working knowledge
of 18th-century building methods and materials and be familiar with the
repair and replacement of
traditional materials.  The candidates should also be familiar with
early 20th-century restoration
practices.  Experience in performing routine maintenance and training
staff in preservation practices is
desirable. The candidates should have strong organizational and
communication skills, both oral and
written.
