The Visitor Studies Association Conference, held in Chicago August 3-7, has
just concluded, after more than 50 presentations of research and evaluation
on visitor learning and behavior in museums.  Informal Learning Experiences,
Inc., has published the abstracts and they are now available.

The abstracts provide summaries of visitor research and theory on a wide
range of topics.  Some sample titles include:  How to Interview a Young
Visitor, Visitor Satisfaction as a Measure of Success, Measuring Museum
Website Effectiveness, Designing Female Friendly Exhibits, Can an Exhibit
Affect Visitor Conservation Behaviors?, Layered Labels:  Do They Work?, Using
Qualitative and Quantitative Methods in Visitor Studies, and What Cognitive
Characteristics Tell Us About Cognitive Satisfaction.  Authors include John
Falk, Deborah Perry, Ted Ansbacher, Zahava Doering, Ross Loomis, and many
others well known in the field of visitor studies.

The Abstracts are available separately for $20.00 plus p/h - $2.50 in the US,
$4.00 for Canada and $6.00 for other international.  Please send an e-mail to

The abstracts can also be obtained as the first issue (along with regular
newsletter content) of a subscription to the Informal Learning Review. A
six-issue (20-24 pages each issue) annual subscription is available for $55
US for United States subscriptions, $57 for Canada, and $60 for other

(www.informallearning,com) further information on the Informal Learning
Review.

The Informal Learning Review covers news issues, trends, research and
evaluation, and resources (funding, exhibits, curriculum) for learning
outside the classroom, including museums, zoos, aquariums, nature centers,
community centers, public television, and other sources of informal learning.
