We are reviewing our current policy regarding hanging things on the walls of
our restored (using thousands of hours of volunteer sweat) Depot. There is a
lot of attachment to the building, particularly the beautiful, honey-colored
Douglas fir paneling. The current policy is that no nails shall ever be
driven into the wall, ever. No other method of hanging things shall be used
if it will mar or deface the wood.

Obviously, I'm not going to advocate that we make Swiss cheese of the walls,
but its hard to have signage if you can't put it up. We have considered
picture rail, but I think that we could also adopt a more middle-of-the-road
policy. Several of the volunteers who played a large role in the restoration
also agree with me.

Do any other historical sites/museums have policies on wall-care and hanging
signs, etc.?

Many thanks,
Erica
