The third printing of the Emergency Response and Salvage Wheel is now
underway. Since its release in 1997, the Wheel has become an essential
resource for archives, libraries, museums, and historic sites nationwide.
The Wheel is a popular training tool found in more than 40 countries, and it
has been translated into Chinese, Dutch, French, and Spanish.

The need for accurate disaster response and recovery information is greater
than ever. In recent weeks, the Midwest experienced wide-scale flooding
along the Mississippi River, and Tropical Storm Allison caused devastating
rains in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Pennsylvania.

The Emergency Response and Salvage Wheel can help archivists, records
managers, curators, and emergency managers in all areas of the country at
risk from water damage - whether from hurricanes, floods, or broken pipes.
This simple slide chart provides quick access to vital information on
protecting and salvaging collections in the first 48 hours after a disaster.
The Wheel was developed by preservation professionals, and it has been
endorsed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and many other
federal agencies and national organizations.

The Emergency Response and Salvage Wheel was produced by the National Task
Force on Emergency Response, a partnership of 30 government agencies and
national service organizations. The task force is an initiative of the
nonprofit Heritage Preservation, FEMA, and the Getty Conservation Institute.
The Wheel's initial production and free distribution were made possible by
funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the St. Paul
Companies, Inc. Foundation, and an anonymous foundation. These partners will
produce a Spanish-language version of the Wheel later this year.

Due to rising postal rates and production costs, the Emergency Response and
Salvage Wheel will increase in price as of August 1, 2001. Wheels will be
available at $10.95 each, or at a nonprofit/government rate of $6.95 each,
including postage and handling. Reduced rates are available for orders of 10
or more. All the basic information you need in one simple tool - the Wheel
is still a bargain!
