I've used Tim McCreight's books for years, and while they're great
resources for jewel-smithing and metalworking, they've never suggested
mount-making techniques to me. An obvious limitation, to my mind
anyway, his that they deal almost exclusively with metal, whereas
various plastics are much more versatile and suitable for mount-making.
A better bet would be CCI's "Mount-making for Museum Objects," available
from their bookstore at
https://www.cci-icc.gc.ca/bookstore/viewCategory-e.cfm?id=20

Cheers,

I've heard that the Tim McCreight metalsmith book series
are great for learning techniques for building object
mounts. Is anyone familiar enough with this series to
recommend one of these?

Metals Technic: A Collection of Techniques for
Metalsmiths
Jewelry Making: Techniques for Metal
Jewelry: Fundamentals of Metalsmithing
Complete Metalsmith: Professional Edition
or
The Complete Metalsmith: An Illustrated Handbook
