        Dear Listers,

We are in the process of developing a film policy for our museum and
historic sites. I have searched the archives and found some good
information and one film policy (Thank you Cape Fear Museum!) and have a few
more questions to ask about this subject.

Do you charge a standard flat fee for staff time or is the fee based
on hours? How much are these fees? We have had several requests to provide
staff dressed in appropriate attire for filming. Do you have a separate fee
structure for this type of situation?

Do you differentiate in your fee structure/policy between
"commercial" (example: feature film) and "non-commercial" ( example: news
crews, non-profit educational organizations) ?

For those of you who host film crews, do you find that the
restrictions of filming within a museum environment deter many from filming
at your site? If so, how many film companies do you host and how many decide
not to use the site? Do you find that the benefits of hosting film crews at
your site (publicity, marketing, increasing audience, making
collections/historic sites available to the public, profit?) outweigh the
costs (staff time, preservation concerns )?

How often do you have to revise your policy due to unforeseen issues
that have arisen during filming? (example: Restricting the type of
equipment brought in? Intensity of lights? )

If you have a written policy that you would be willing to share,
would you please forward? Please feel free to respond off-list to the
address below and I thank you for your time and assistance!

        Sincerely,

        Kathy Daniels
        Collections Manager
