Re: All the Getty fuss

After reading the original and several angry responses, I tried a print-out.
At least you got a picture! All I got was twenty three pages of letters
and symbols! WYSIWYG strikes again.

Dear Ms. Baroff,

I don't know if you are aware of it or not, but there has been a
flurry of angry postings on the Museum-L list regarding recent messages
from the Getty Museum, like yours of today (10/19/96), which have
included photographic TIF files. These postings have taken up a great
deal of space in people's mailboxes (sometime over 1 mb) and sometimes
take a long time to download. The jist of these messages has been that
people have become upset with the Getty for putting such files out over
the list or they have simply deleted the messages without ever reading them.

In either case, I don't think that is the reception you and the
museum hoped your messages would receive. You may want to pass this
information along to other members of your staff. We appreciate hearing
what your institution is doing, but the photographs are not necessary or
desired.

                                Sincerely,
