I was able to scan several old negatives and use a menu choice in the software to click on "Invert" which produced a positive print. Maybe not the very safest for the negative but very easy and cheap!!
I think most photo editing software have such a feature -- maybe called something else like Reverse of negative or something like that. I used UleadPhoto Impact, but others would probably work too.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] development of photo negative
Hello. I have an old negative dating back to the early 1900s and need to have it redeveloped, however, I am unsure where to go. I live in the Wilmington, NC area and would appreciate any input the list has in this matter.
