Ginny,

    There are some possible solutions for your canvas mounting problem
but they are not for those untrained in the specific techniques. I would
recommend you consult with a paintings conservator to see if a secondary
canvas or other support can be added in the manner of relining an old
canvas through the use of wax or Beva adhesive. A good place to start
would be to post this query on the Conservation DistList
([log in to unmask]) to get the input of the
conservation community. I'm sure you will be able to find a solution
there.
