Adolf Cluss Fellowships for Transatlantic Encounters in Washington, DC, USA and Heilbronn, Germany, 2005-2006.  Applications due by March 10, 2005. 
 

Twofellowships-on each side of the Atlantic-funded by the German Program for Transatlantic Encounters are available for Summer/Fall 2005 and Winter 2005-2006 sponsored by the Adolf Cluss Exhibition Project, which is being organized by a consortium of museums and cultural organizations in the United States and Germany. The project's chief activities involve virtual and real exhibitions in Washington, DC and Heilbronn, Germany that explore the impact of the life and work of German immigrant architect Adolf Cluss (1825-1905). The exhibitions, Adolf Cluss: From Germany to America, Shaping a Capital City Worthy of a Republic, open at the Charles Sumner School Museum in Washington, DC and at the Stadtarchiv Heilbronn in September 2005 and will continue until February 2006.

 

Each fellowship is for three to six months and has a total stipend available of ?2,475, approximately $3,200. A travel grant of ?500, approximately $650, is also available to successful applicants.

 

 

Fellowships at the Charles Sumner School Museum, Washington, DC and Stadtarchiv Heilbronn

Duties will include assisting the curators of the Adolf Cluss exhibition with installation of exhibition components, and with planning for publicity and public programs. The interns-one based in Washington and one based in Heilbronn-will also assist with coordination of German components in the Washington exhibition and with American components in Heilbronn.

 

Requirements: The successful applicants will have exemplary skills in both German and English and will have a career interest in exhibition design, fabrication, and installation or in museum education, architectural history, or social/cultural history. The applicants will demonstrate inter-personal skills, enthusiasm, and an interest in German and American history. All applicants should be enrolled in university programs that substantiate these interests. Priority will be given to applicants from the greater Washington or Heilbronn areas. Placement starting July 1, 2005
