When I used to work at a large art center I had an informal list of
contacts at similar institutions that I could go to for advice, and it
proved very helpful. It was a network I assembled over the course of my
14 years there. There was talk at some point about creating a national
organization of art centers and there was a conference held in 2004 at
the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia, which led to the
creation of the Alliance for the Advancement of Community Visual Art
Centers (AACVAC), but there is no listserv to my knowledge. The AACVAC
contact is [log in to unmask] and there is a rudimentary page for the
organization on the Torpedo Factory website. I did not attend the
conference but I heard it was very helpful for networking purposes.

There are email updates and listserves available through Americans for
the Arts at:
http://www.artsusa.org/
Your state may also have an arts listserve. Georgia has one called
ArtsGeorgia that can be subscribed to through Georgia Assembly of
Community Arts Agencies vie their web site:

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] listserv for art centers?
Greetings all:
Asking on behalf of a colleague:
Is there is a listserv, blog, message board, etc. specific to art
centers? Or is it generally felt that, as the AAM accepts art
centers as museums, there is no need for a distinct listserv?
With thanks in advance!
Best wishes, sincerely,
