Hello...I have been a lurker on the museum list for a few years now and I have just
joined forces with a fledgling theatre group, Not Merely Players--an Atlanta theatre group by, for, and about people with disabilities. The reason I am writing to the Museum List is because of your wealth of knowledge in regards to grant sources and I recall some folks have a special expertise regarding services for people with disabilities. I wondered if anyone might be able to share your vast knowledge of grant sources or organizations that might be interested in our mission.
Not Merely Players is most certainly not a forum for pity but for celebrating life and the expression of feelings, thoughts, and ideas--the truths of some who have previously been denied access to the stage. The element that I am attempting to bring to life is a performance troupe that will go to local children's hospitals, senior citizens homes, etc. and not only perform for them--but then engage in the process of creating a performance with them. I would envision sort of an "artist group in residence" for a few weeks culminating in a staged performance--and hopefully the workings in place with some employees or volunteers to continue to create performances once we are gone.
Does anyone have any ideas you could share with me--I would be so grateful? Thank you very much in advance for your help
Sincerely;
Alicia Quirk
