Position Description for Research and Evaluation Assistant at the
Institute for Learning Innovation
March 6, 2003

The Institute for Learning Innovation, a nonprofit research and
evaluation organization that works with museums and other
community-based institutions world-wide, is seeking applicants for a
three-month, full-time Research and Evaluation Assistant.  The position
begins immediately.   
 
The Research and Evaluation Assistant will work on a variety of
evaluation projects ranging from evaluation of museum exhibitions and
programs to community-based and technology-based programs. Duties are
specific to projects and will include some or all of the following
tasks:

        *       Data Collection: Conducting semi-structured interviews
with adults and children, including both face-to-face interviews with
visitors to a museum or community-based organization, as well as
telephone interviews with teachers or parents.  
        *       Data Entry: Coding data and entering it into an
appropriate software program, including SPSS, Survey Pro, MS Excel, or
MS Access. 
        *       Other duties.  Depending upon the skills of the Research
Assistant, additional responsibilities may include general data
analysis, writing draft sections of technical reports, conducting
literature reviews, and other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and knowledge:

        *       Interviewing experience and skills, including telephone
interviews and face-to-face interviews. 
        *       Familiarity with relevant software, including MS Access,
MS Excel, and MS Word.  Knowledge of SPSS and Survey Pro a plus.
        *       Ability to learn quickly and work independently 
        *       Excellent interpersonal skills
        *       Excellent written and oral communication skills.
        *       Flexible schedule, since some data collection will
involve working on the weekends and/or in the evenings to conduct
interviews.  

This position is designated as full-time (40 hours per week) for three
months at $500 per week, with no benefits.  Interested candidates should
