We actually use .com.

We've had the site for a few years now, and when we launched it, we had this
same dicussion...our webmaster thought .com was probably a bit easier for
most people. It was really a toss up, so we just went with .com.
We already have a difficult handle -- "schwenkfelder" ! Our website gets
over 13,000 hits a year, which we consider pretty successful for a small
organization. Also, we have a varied audience -- true "museum goers",
genealogy researchers, scholars, teachers and descendants of the
Schwenkfelder immigrants. There are several Schwenkfelder churches that are
.org, so perhaps it helps to distinguish us. I think that .org would have
been more appropriate in the long run, but this has worked beautifully for
us.
