Assistant Curator of Education For Outreach and Family Programs
The Norton Museum of Art is seeking a highly organized, motivated
individual to join our Education Department to develop, coordinate and
execute internal and external youth/family art programs. A Bachelors
degree required; MA in Art History, Education, Museum Studies or related
field preferred.
The responsibilities of the Assistant Curator of Education include the
following:
Develop program curriculum and manage P.A.C.E. Program (Progressive
After-School Art Community Education). Supervise instructors at outreach
sites that provide arts programming for 750 youth in underserved parts
of the community; hire and evaluate a staff of four to seven
instructors; maintain relationships with partner organizations; create
contracts; manage payroll; seek funding for programs, evaluate program
and maintain records for grant reports; maintain the accountability and
transparency of the program; maintain the budget for this program;
engage in successful ways to perform outreach to the community at large.
Develop and oversee NMA family programs. Schedule, set program
agreements, manage contracts and event flow and setup. Maintain a list
of family contacts. Engage in ways to encourage families to attend
programs regularly. Use special exhibitions and the collection to write
curriculum for family programs. Teach family programs on one Saturday
and one Sunday per month, and two family celebrations per year.
Administer the competitive NMA Summer Internship program, managing 9
interns. Responsible for the supervision of high school and college
interns. Plan all aspects of seven week summer internship program
including recruitment, application review and interviews, orientation,
tour training, coordination of departmental activities and weekly
community enhancement days. Supervise intern exhibition. Liaison
between interns and Norton staff.
Establish relationships with local community based organizations that
support youth. Develop short term workshops and deliver them to the
organizations. Maintain a relationship with VSA Palm Beach County,
providing 2 - 4 workshops per year for VSA students at the Norton.
Develop and administer assessment and evaluations for specific programs.
Incorporate feedback from various programs to further support mission
and goals.
Curate 2 - 3 exhibitions in the Marden Community Gallery per year,
highlighting the work of the PACE students and Interns.
Must be able to demonstrate ability for and experience of program
development targeting youth/art interaction.
Computer literate with MS Office. Must have excellent verbal and written
communication skills and be comfortable in a leadership, teaching and
speaking roles. The ability to communicate clearly with people from all
walks of life is essential.
