Robin,
We negated the need by bringing in a local brewery to sell at the event. It frees our staff from any liability since the brewery is required to have all applicable permits and limits the expenditure of hiring a licensed bartender, etc.(who may or may not show - that was a fun evening!) Also, they tend to have their own following which means additional visitors who may not have otherwise show up and another venue who will advertise your event at no cost to you.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] concert/event liability insurance

I'm curious to know how fellow small museums (our budget is approximately $250,000 per year) handle liability insurance at events/concerts where liquor is sold.  Without liquor sales, the insurance is very reasonable, but once we add the words concert and liquor to the mix, the quotes are very high. Way out of sync for something like a laid-back jazz concert (with a trio of musicians) on the museum lawn on a Sunday afternoon - max audience of 150-200 people (mostly seniors).
