The draft Policy Statement of the International Council of Museums (ICOM):
"Museums and Cultural Diversity" is now available for consultation and
comment at:

        http://www.icom.org/diversity.html

The paper was prepared by the ICOM Working Group on Cross-Cultural Issues,
chaired by Dr. Amareswar Galla of the University of Canberra and has been
endorsed by the ICOM Executive Council. It includes a proposed strategic
plan covering the promotion and development of the work of museums in
relation to seven key areas for action and development initiatives, aiming
at:

1. Cultural Diversity
2. Participatory Democracy
3. Cooperation and Coordination
4. Peace and Community Building
5. Innovation and Inspiration
7. Resourcefulness

The report now goes to the next ICOM General Conference and General
Assembly, which is being held in Melbourne in October 1998, for final
consideration and, it is hoped, adoption.
