The draft Policy Statement of the International Council of Museums (ICOM): "Museums and Cultural Diversity" is now available for consultation and comment at: http://www.icom.org/diversity.html The paper was prepared by the ICOM Working Group on Cross-Cultural Issues, chaired by Dr. Amareswar Galla of the University of Canberra and has been endorsed by the ICOM Executive Council. It includes a proposed strategic plan covering the promotion and development of the work of museums in relation to seven key areas for action and development initiatives, aiming at: 1. Cultural Diversity 2. Participatory Democracy 3. Cooperation and Coordination 4. Peace and Community Building 5. Innovation and Inspiration 7. Resourcefulness The report now goes to the next ICOM General Conference and General Assembly, which is being held in Melbourne in October 1998, for final consideration and, it is hoped, adoption.
