The San Jose Museum Art is dedicated to fostering the awareness,
appreciation, and understanding of twentieth- and twenty-first-century art
in the diverse audiences of the Bay Area. The Museum achieves its mission
through its exhibitions, education programs, collections, publications, art
school, special events, and outreach programs, all of which are designed to
serve, engage, and enrich the individual and the community.

Position Announcement

GALLERY TEACHER

Title:                  Gallery Teacher

Reports to:             Museum Educator for School and Teacher Programs
Responsibilities:       Conduct gallery tours and activities for students grade
K-12
                        Conduct research regarding upcoming exhibitions and                             Museum's
Permanent Collection;
                        Design and implement grade-appropriate materials;
                        Participate in all exhibition training sessions, monthly                                meetings,
and continuing education sessions
                        Perform other tasks that pertain to the responsibilities of                             the
Education Department, as assigned by the Museum                                 Educator for School and
Teacher Programs

Qualifications:         Fluency in English. Spanish or Vietnamese fluency a plus.
                        Experience working with children and teachers, especially                               in an
educational setting;
                        Basic understanding of educational theories or techniques,                              age/grade
characteristics, and/or child developmental                             stages;
                        Excellent communication and writing skills;
                        Interest in arts and museum education;
                        Ability to work independently, with little supervision, and                             uphold
Museum's policies;
                        Creativity and flexibility.

Status:                 Part-time. Schedule varies according to school tour                             requests.
                        Monday-Friday, 8-10 hours/week. Ability to work                                         weekends and
evenings as required.

Compensation:   $10.00/hour
