Jenny, about your "old medicines" issue,
Perhaps if you contacted some museums that specialize in collections of
this type, you may gain additional insight. To this end, I did a search for
"medical" on my (shameless plug) website that offers a searchable interface
to a wide variety of museums. I came up with about 5 in the United States
that have similar collections.
You can try this search yourself at http://museumstuff.com Make sure you
search in the museum database and not the general database though.
