I am inclined to agree with the "just do it" mentality regarding museums and
holidays.  Where I work, we are only closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve,
Christmas, and New Years day.  It's very frustrating at times, but also the
nature of a historic site.....at least in N.C.  The only holidays I've had
off so far just happened to coincide with my normal days off.  So, basically,
it's built into our system or simply understood that we will work holidays.
We do recieve comp time, and sometimes overtime pay depending on the
situation, or a combination of the two.

We have a sort of complex employee classification:  full-time permanent,
full-time temporary, part time temporary, volunteers, etc etc and each
classification has a different way of handling holiday work/pay, but
basically everyone understands at the out-set that holiday work will be
involved.
