Historic Deerfield is developing a Children's History Center (with
participatory exhibits and workshop/ program space) that will serve
families and school groups, and we’d like to hear from other history
museums that have developed similar buildings or galleries to serve these
audiences. We’re especially interested in the impact your project has had
on attendance and membership as well as other effects (anticipated or
otherwise) on your museum.

If you will take our Five-Minute Survey and reply to me off-list at the
e-mail address below, I’ll be happy to post a summary of all responses.

Thanks very much!

1. How large is your children's gallery or building?

2. What are its main components?

3. When did your children's gallery/building open to the public?

4. Are the hours and admission prices to your children's gallery or
building the same as for the rest of the museum? If not, how are they
different?

5. What have been the most and least successful exhibits or other
components of your gallery?

6. Does your children's space serve families or schools or both?

7. What impact has your children's space had on annual attendance? (pre-
and post statistics would be very helpful)

8. What impact has your children's space had on the number of family
memberships sold? (pre- and post statistics would be very helpful)

9. What kinds of market and audience research did you conduct as you
developed your children's gallery? How did such studies inform the
development of your project?

10. How many new staff positions has your children's gallery/building
required? How has your museum met these additional operating costs?

11. Which other history museums with children's galleries/buildings should
we visit or learn more about?

12. Any other comments or suggestions? Great resources? Things you would
do differently?

THANK YOU!!
