Fellow list mates:
I am interning with the Butler County Historical Society this
semester and could use some professional input with a particular problem.
The Historical Society has been offered a letter by Col. Richard Butler,
namesake of Butler County, Indian Agent and hero of the Revolutionary
War. The letter was written on one of his trips to Pittsburgh some
time between 1789-1790. He was killed in 1791, so it was written no later
than that.
The price we were quoted is much higher than an appraisal by a
state historian. I guess what we are looking for is a second opinion, or
the name of a qualified appraiser who deals with these sorts of things.
People can reply on or off list depending on the interest of
others. I am also going to post this on other listservs, so forgive any
duplication. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.
