The Nevada Historical Society, Reno, is now accepting applicants for
collections management/registration interns for 1998. An AAM accredited
institution, the Nevada Historical Society has artifact collections that
include clothing, Native American objects, artifacts pertaining to the gaming
industry, mining artifacts, and objects used in the daily lives of 19th and
20th century Nevadans. This internship is an excellent opportunity for those
interested in historical museum registration or the history of the American
West.

Applicants should be recent graduates or currently enrolled in graduate
programs in museum studies, U.S. history, anthropology, history of American
art, or American Studies, and should have education or experience in
collections management/museum registration. Interns will have the option of
working on a variety of registration tasks or they may select a specific
project to focus on. Supervised by a staff of museum professionals, the
interns will receive practical experience in museum registration and
collections management. The length and dates of the internship can be
determined by the student, though six weeks (240 hours) is the minimum.

Reno is located in western Nevada at the edge of the Sierra-Nevada mountains.
With a population of approximately 230,000, the Reno area offers easy access
to Yosemite National Park, Lake Tahoe, and several state parks in Nevada and
California. Reno is the home of the University of Nevada, numerous
entertainment venues, and several museums.

Applications will be taken on a first come-first served basis, so those
interested should apply as early as possible. For further information, contact
Andrea Mugnier, Nevada Historical Society, 1650 N. Virginia St., Reno, NV
