Regarding teaching this controversy as a case study:

It might be useful to keep in mind that the controversy cannot be boiled
down into museum vs. veterans.  There were mixed feelings *within* the
museum about how to handle Enola Gay.  I worked as an intern last summer
in the museum's conservation unit and saw some of this firsthand.
Admittedly, I did not have the inside track on planning, but I was able
to discuss with various people (mostly those doing hands-on restoration
work on Enola Gay) their views on topics like Enola Gay as artifact and
the purpose/direction of the planned exhibit.  Not everyone agreed.
