The Fort MacArthur Museum is a weekend military museum staffed by
volunteers in a Los Angeles City Park in San Pedro, CA. We are a
so-called "operating unit of the Los Angeles City Department of
Recreation and Parks." We get no support, however from the city. We
have thousands of objects, photographs, uniforms, manuals, and so on
that have not been cataloged, although we have deeds of gift for most
items.

Given our almost nonexistent staff, budget and weekend hours, can
anyone suggest an inexpensive software for collections? Also, can
anyone recommend a book or instructions for beginning this process. Do
we start with #1 and go, do we link an object with the accession number
on the deed of gift? Help.

We have looked at documentation on SNAP, but it costs more than our new
computer, and the DOS version is a flat database. The Windows version
costs twice the price of our computer. We have looked at the "History
Computerization Project" and find the Pick operating system to leave a
lot to be desired.

Thank you for your support.
