There is no doubt that Internet discussion has forever changed the way that
I work with colleagues in the profession. One major change is that with
literally hundreds of colleagues (many of whom you do not know---but neither
do you know their expertise) reading your comments or inquiry, you have a
much wider base of expertise to tap into....something you would never have had
before. Another benefit is simplicity. Before Internet (and e-mail), I would
have had to compose a letter, use 1/3 of it with addresses, salutations,
letterhead art, print it on the computer printer, make a second photocopy for
the files (a walk down the hallway to the copier), type an envelope, walk it
to the "mail" drop, fill out a form for the post office to charge my postage
account.... Now I can avoid all of that hassle and at the same time, save
my file to disk, computer, or print at the touch of a button. That may not
be a comment on "how you communicate with colleagues" but the ease of that
methods means that my communication is faster, more accessible, and more
encompassing in the profession.
