The Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) will present a one-day
program on preservaiton of magnetic media -- videotape, tape recordings, and
computer records -- from 9:00 to 5:00 on Saturday, October 1, 1994. The
program will take place at the Connecticut Historical Society, One Elizabeth
Street, Hartford, Connecticut. It is presented in partnership with the
Connecticut State Library and NELINET.
With strategies in place for saving brittle books and paper, magnetic media
have become the current preservation frontier. This program will introduce
concepts and techniques of preserving fragile videotape, audio tape, and
computer tapes and discs. It will provide practical tactics for librarians,
archivists, and others with responsibility for extending the life expectancy
of these formats, either as archival records or items for frequent access and
use.
The deadline for registration is September 22, 1994. The fee is $75.00,
which will cover lunch, breaks, and informational materials. Payment
should be sent with the registration form to Beth Patkus, Northeast
Document Conservation Center, 100 Brickstone Square, Andover, MA
01810-1494. Make checks payable to Northeast Document Conservation
Center. For further information call Beth Patkus at 508-470-1010.
Partial funding for this program is provided by the National Endowment for
the Humanities (NEH) and the Connecticut State Library membership in
NEDCC.
