I use MS-ACCESS in my slide library to  manage the day-to-day activities
of the facility.  I'm no whiz at programming in ACCESS BASIC, but did
design many customized features that allow us to run a paperless office.
For example, we are open to the public and provide public library cards.
I put together an ACCESS routine that allows our interns to activate a
hand scanner, scan an image of the new users driver's license (instead of
keeping a paper copy), and automatically import it into an ACCESS patron
record.  We also use the system to track photography orders from our local
and in-house labs, produce a daily 'to-do' list of staff orders, and account
for income from slide and photograph sales.  I'm currently (in my ample
spare time) working on a new module for rights and reproductions services
management.
