Having done research on the history of art objects in library collections, I
am concerned about the loss of information with the cards. It is amazing what
can be gleaned from even minimal notations on the cards--handwriting, notes
consistently appearing withing a specific accession or purchase, etc.--and
since some wonderful works of art once entered the cultural archive by way of
public libraries--I shudder to think of the history lost with the cards.
