We are attempting to solve one problem in our main gallery but are
concerned we may make even bigger problems for the gallery below. I
welcome any information on lighting for a basement gallery that will
have no natural lighting.

The present basement gallery is partially lighted and given a small
sense of openness by virtue of a 20 by 20 foot opening in the
ceiling/floor between it and the much larger main gallery above. The
ceiling of the main gallery is glassed and provides significant
defused natural light into the gallery and with some spill over to the
basement gallery below.
In order to improve and expand the use of the large main
gallery, it is proposed to close the opening. Then, so as not to
degrade the purpose of the basement gallery, we must provide new or
expanded artificial lighting to the room. One person has suggested
the use of Fiber Optic lighting for this room. Does anyone have any
experience with this type of lighting and whether it is flexible
enough to accommodate changing painting exhibitions several times a
year. Also, does anyone have any cost information on Fiber Optics.
Any comments and/or suggestions of where I should look will be
welcome.

Thank you

John Bing
