The answer to the befuddlement below is in coursework
I've taken, and I believe the Mission Statement length
most probably came from either the Grant Writing or
Public Relations for Nonprofit Professionals
coursework I took at UCLA.
While I concur that a mission statement should not be
vacuous, or at least no more vacuous than the
organization that tries to sell it, it should not be
two paragraphs long either. I've seen mission
statements that look likes babies' names in some
family. Everybody in the extended family got a chance
to add a name to the child, or everybody in the
organization adds some buzzword.
Let me see if I can pull something out on Mission
Statements that will help.

My first experience with mission statements was as a
result of taking Stephen Covey's "Seven Habits of
Highly Effective People". I wrote a three-fold
mission statement covering the various aspects of my
life and, with the exception of changing two words,
it's one I've lived by for more than 10 years.
