Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in art
history with two (2) years experience in an Art Museum or in teaching Art
History; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Prefer
individual with excellent organizational, time, and task management skills;
a basic understanding of and willingness to develop skills in computer
software and systems management; willingness to develop friendly working
relationships with donors, patron, and University faculty, staff, and
community representatives; a knowledge of the Visual Arts; a thorough
understanding of program considerations for the Turchin Center for the
Visual Arts, An Appalachian Summer Festival, and Catherine J. Smith Gallery
events; general supervision skills; strong oral and written communication
skills; ability to remain flexible and pleasant under stress; multi-tasking
skills; strong interpersonal skills; ability to maintain a helpful attitude
and a pleasant, and pleasant approachable demeanor; strong on-the-spot,
problem solving skills; and willingness and ability to arrange work schedule
to complete projects on demand.

Description of Work:
The position of Art Museum Assistant Curator incorporates the duties of
Assistant Curator, Education Program Design Registrar, and Personal
Assistant to the Director of the Office of the Turchin Center for the Visual
Arts.  As Assistant Curator, individual will assist with the research,
design, and implementation of exhibition programming.  This includes
assisting the Director with researching artists, and appropriate work,
securing works for exhibition, arranging shipping, insurance, publication
planning and design, installation design, the actual installation,
de-installation, and maintenance of the exhibits.  The individual will
assist in designing educational programming concurrent with each exhibit.
This includes assisting with lectures, symposia, gallery talks and tours,
workshops, and visiting artists/art professionals.  The Assistant Curator
acts in the capacity of registrar in the proper cataloging of works arriving
for exhibition, in completing appropriate condition reports, and in tracking
and caring for the Permanent Collection.  In the role of Personal Assistant
to the Director, individual will assist in representing the Center in
committees, meetings, presentations, and provides assistance in developing
grant proposals.
