Seriously on this subject: We have electronic door counters, but learned early
on that it appeared to be "off" during high and low traffic days. To figure
this out, we assigned people to use hand clickers for three high volume, three
low volume, and three normal volume days. We worked out a weighting formula.
The problem was when groups of people walked in together across the opening it
might count "1" when there were three people. I didn't figure out the formula,
but I did check it with handcounters when we opened a new entrance, and it
seemed to work pretty well on both places. We count attendance this way, and
one of the important things is to get a fairly accurate idea of what it is doing
and be very consistent.
