Job seekers,

The museum job posting sites are great -- MERC, AVISO, History News, etc.
However, if you are looking for work in a specific city or region, do not
pass up the more traditional job finding method -- the classified section of
that city's newspaper. Most major papers including the New York Times have
their job classifieds online and are equipped with keyword search engines.
Just type "museum". The classifieds will also run ads for part time museum
positions (docents, reference desk, etc) that don't warrant full ads on
AVISO or MERC.

Another example: the Washington Post runs many ads in its classified section
for museum/history employment in many branches of the federal government
that you rarely find on other museum list postings.

Best of luck...

Leah,

Just this week were other inquiries about posting resumes, and this is not
a posting service. I too, am looking for career track museum positions as
well and have used Global Museum, the Museum Employemnt Resource Center for
posting and employment opportunities; and The Arts Wire Jobs and AVISO on
the internet for job vacancies. All of these sites have been kept up to
date and are updated weekly and sometimes daily. Also, look at the actual
Museum web site for they may only post their openings on their web site and
not on the latter mentioned web sites. There are other sites as well that
you may find through simple internet search.

Best of Luck to you!

Beth
