I have found that diciphering values on damaged loan pieces nearly enitrely
rests with the insurance company. I was involved in a difference of opinion
on a damaged loan piece once and realize now that it can get very involved
indeed. The insurance adjuster researched values through the artist's
dealers himself as well as getting information from us (we were on the
loaning end). As with most things in life, there is often room for
negotiation. It seems a very intelligent idea to have the very best of forms
and the very best of current information with which to fill them in from the
start.
