As suggested earlier, many museums linked to the Roman Catholic Church can
be found through the CMA site. The site of the Société des musées québécois
could also be a good place to look for religious museums in Quebec
(www.smq.qc.ca). The presence and importance of the Catholic Church
throughout Quebec's history is thus evident in the museums and collections
in this province: some parishes have created small museums in their
churches, many religious congregations have also designed interesting
exhibits within their monasteries, other collections are linked to
pilgrimage centres or schools. A few come to mind:

THE MUSEE DE SAINTE ANNE: The recently remodelled building and displays
host an impressive collection recalling the 300 years of pilgrimage at
Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré (near Quebec City - managed by the Redemptorists
Fathers). A must!

THE MUSEE DES URSULINES: one in Quebec City and one in Trois-Rivières. Not
to be missed! Located in historic monasteries! Great artistic treasures!

THE MUSEE BON-PASTEUR: (Quebec City, again) Interesting new museum with
contemporary displays of the Sisters of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart
of Mary (Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec).

...AND SO MANY OTHERS: Musée des Augustines de l'Hôtel-Dieu-de-Québec,
Musée de l'Oratoire Saint-Joseph-du-Mont-Royal, Musée de la Basilique Notre-
Dame, Musée du Séminaire (now part of the Musée de la civilisation - Quebec
City)...

Recent years have also witnessed the creation of great initiatives and of
new resources by both the Provincial Government and the differents Churches
to help preserve this rich heritage (landscape, architecture, decorative
arts, immaterial legacy...): the Corporation du tourisme religieux de
Québec, the Living Stones/Pierre Vivantes association, the Religious
Heritage Foundation/Fondation du patrimoine religieux or the Mission
patrimoine religieux organization... All of which are essential to help
foster more awareness of the importance of religious heritage in a society
that has deserted abruptly is affiliation with the Catholic Church in the
1960's (what is called the "révolution tranquille").

I could go on... I encourage you to come up North to visit them! If you
need more information, specific contacts, website addresses, don't hesitate
to write to me...
