We paint during hours when we are open. Each gallery is gated and we close the appropriate gate. To my knowledge we have not had a problem with latex paint fumes disturbing our staff or visitors - but I do recall that painting Zolotone (or rather shooting Zolotone) was quite noxious to staff and visitors, even from a gallery with doors closed. I would recommend that Zolotone work only take place during off-hours.

Hi,

I was wondering how other museums handle the need to repaint galleries with latex paint during hours when the museum is open to the public.

Do you shut off an entire wing?

Do you simply never paint during hours when the museum is open to the public?

Does your museum have a policy on this?

Do you notify staff in advance so they can avoid an area where painting is taking place if fumes bother them?

Thanks!
