Anticipated duration of internship: 6 months, 1,000 hours.  Start date: January 2019; however, schedule is flexible.  Must be completed by June 30, 2019.
Rate of Pay: $14.00/hr. for graduate student; $12.00/hr. undergraduate student


Summary of Work

The intern will assist museum division staff recover after storm damage to an offsite storage facility. This will include updating the catalog records, condition reports and photographs of over 850 artifacts at the location. The intern will have a chance to work on a variety of other collections management and registration activities, and museum exhibit related tasks.


Duties and Task

The intern will work on cleaning, cataloging, photographing and doing condition reports on artifacts at an offsite storage facility. The intern will make recommendations for improving storage mounts and/or storage furniture and if time permits, implement some of those recommendation.  Additionally, the intern will help the collections staff with environmental monitoring and pest management.  He/she will have the opportunity to design and install the "Recent Acquisitions" display case.


Student Requirements

Applicant must be a student with a major in Museum Studies, History, Public History, or related field.
To be eligible for a North Dakota State Government Student Internship, a student:

  *   Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, in the United States, and
  *   Must be a current full-time student, as defined by that school, in the semester or quarter in which he/she applies for internship, and
  *   Must be able to receive academic credit for the internship, and
  *   Must be at least of junior standing by the beginning of the internship (and
  *   Must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
