I've seen a gallery sew a strip ( the width of a sleeve) onto the back of
large hook rug pieces and adhere Velcro to that with an opposing 1x4
anchored into the wall with the receiving Velcro.

However, i have never seen anything like that in any of the museums I've
worked in.
