Hello all,

The Albany Institute of History & Art is seeking a Major Gifts Officer & Campaign Manager (MGO) to develop and manage a major gifts and fundraising campaign.  Responsibilities include the creation of reasonable financial goals, the preparation of a new case for support, identification and qualification of prospects, the preparation of proposals and solicitations, and attention to ongoing stewardship. The MGO should have 5 or more years of experience with major gifts, endowment or capital campaigns, and planned giving. A baccalaureate degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred, along with experience and knowledge of tax laws that impact charitable giving, personal assets and estates, and an understanding of cultural institutions. Salary is commensurate with the level of experience. This position is currently vacant and will be filled as soon as possible. Position

The Major Gifts Officer & Campaign Manager reports to the Director of Development and works closely with the Executive Director, Development Committee, Masterpiece Committee, Board of Trustees, and the museum’s senior management team.

There are 4 positions in the Development Department:  Director of Development, Special Events and Membership Manager, Development Associate, and Database and Development Coordinator. The Director of Community Engagement works closely with the Development Team.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Director of Development, the Major Gifts Officer & Campaign Manager will oversee assess the museum’s current major gifts and campaign plan and prospective donor list. This includes:

- developing and proposing strategies for the solicitation of major gifts;

- determining ongoing relationships with prospects/donors and recommending specific purpose and level of gift;

- identifying those to be involved in cultivation and subsequent solicitation and assuring that solicitations are carried out;

- co-coordinating an effective program for recognition, involvement, and stewardship of major and special gifts donors;

- the creation monthly reports as required by management that accurately reflect caseload activity and performance; and

- working with Director of Development, Executive Director and trustees to create reasonable financial goals.



Qualifications

The Major Gifts Officer & Campaign Manager will have excellent oral, written, interpersonal, analytical, and organization skills, and will:

-have a background in the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts and campaign management and a proven track record in a successful major gifts program and campaign;

-be a personable individual, with integrity and a sense of humor, who is able to work well with trustees, donors, volunteers and staff, and has the ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:(1) to initiate contacts with potential major donors; (2) to develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers; (3) to move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; (4) to make solicitations when appropriate; (5) to maintain stewardship contacts with donors.

-be a well-organized, detail oriented individual who has the skill set and flexibility necessary to balance the many challenges inherent in a dynamic nonprofit organization;

-understand the needs and interests of major donors in order to develop relationships between them and the museum, as well as the objectives of the major gifts and campaign needs within the overall fundraising program for the museum;

-have the ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate and alter campaign plans, and  articulate the case for support so that individuals “buy into” the vision/mission/goals of the museum and understand with sufficient effectiveness to secure gifts and pledges of $100,000 or more; and

-have a working knowledge of tax laws that impact charitable giving, personal assets, and estates.
